I like it when people assume I lock posts on here after they make a comment, even though said post was locked view-wise to begin with. Perhaps if said person read said post when it was posted, oh, a month or so ago, that would be obvious.

Did 1RM for the first time in what seems like forever yesterday. I believe I did 1RM a year and a half ago, but I don't have the numbers in any logs/journals I've kept...fail, if you ask me.

  • Squat: 315

  • SLDL: 345

  • Bench: 265

  • DB Row: 110

  • DB Shoulder Press: 70

Squat is pretty much where I was in high school. Bench is 30-40 pounds higher than what I did in high school. Overall, I'm fairly happy with the numbers.

Observations:

  • Squat: Had to really focus on keeping my back tight and straight, because I tended to want to roll my shoulders down. Once my back was stable, my quads and glutes could start to build momentum.

  • SLDL: Maintaining grip on the bar seems to be the hardest thing to do with this. Seems like I may slip grip doing this. Also, on my last 1RM (345), I felt my back was having to help out more than I'd like.

  • Bench: 255 seemed easy. With my 265, I noticed my left arm lagged behind my right with moving the weight up. Perhaps this is due to me being right handed?

  • Row: 100 seemed easy, but that extra 10 pounds made it a bitch to lift.

  • Shoulder Press: 70 was fairly challenging, but I felt I may could get 75. Gave it a try, but no go. Took all my effort just to get the dumbbells in position, heh.

Took a day off, but went back today for my 5 rep max sets:

  • Squat: 275

  • SLDL: 315

  • Bench: 235

  • Row: 85

  • Shoulder Press: 60

I'm fairly happy with the results; the 5 reps I managed on bench are equal to what my 1RM was when I was lifting in high school. Good times.

EDIT: I did 315 on SLDL, not 295. 3 45 pound plates on each side + bar = 315...durr!

2 sets of 5...this stuff's heavy at this point, heh:

  • Squat: 245

  • SLDL: 265

  • Bench: 225

  • Row: 80

  • Shoulder Press: 55

Think I did 2 x 15 of 230 on the calf raise, also, along with some ab work.

Wondering if I should do some isolation work on lats.

2 sets of 5, from yesterday:

  • Squat: 235

  • SLDL: 255

  • Bench: 215

  • Row: 75

  • Shoulder Press: 55

Fairly pleased with how I'm doing on upper body, but I think my lower body needs more work. All of the work I did yesterday felt about the same, if you want to rate it with perceived difficulty. Reason for my statement about upper/lower body comparison is due to how I was in high school, where I had insane lower body strength compared to my upper body. IIRC, 1RM on bench press was 230 or 235 back then, with squat being 325 or 335. I want to say I may have been doing pansy squats back then (not squatting deep enough), but that's been nearly 10 years ago, so I don't remember.

All in all, I'm pretty pleased with my results so far. I'm almost done with this first cycle of this workout routine, and if memory serves me correctly, I started noticing big time fat loss the second and subsequent times I ran through this workout cycle. Here's hoping that I see such results once again (and I will not quit working out like I did last time for various stupid reasons).

Being that I haven't posted my past 3 workout results, some may think I quit working out; not true whatsoever. Doing sets of 5 now; 3 sets of the following weights (listing 3 days worth of workouts in one post):

  • Squat: 205, 215, 225

  • SLDL: 225, 235, 245

  • Bench: 185, 195, 205

  • Row: 60, 65, 70

  • Shoulder Press: 45, 50, 50

Going to 2 sets of 5 for today and Thursday, with 5 rep max this Sunday.

Didn't quite meet all my goals, but a good day nonetheless:

1 set of 10

  • Squat: 205

  • SLDL: 225

  • Bench: 185 (should have tried for 195; 205 would've been overkill)

  • Row: 65

  • Shoulder Press: 45

I've been getting these calls, and it's funny because the warranty on my car did go out ~3-4 months ago, so this could've suckered me in if I were gullible. Caller ID here at work doesn't show the number these calls come from unfortunately (and it's only my work number that's getting hit).

Good to know this garbage should stop now.

I find it funny that I would find this on CNN:

http://www.cnn.com/2009/LIVING/05/15/bible.critic/index.html?iref=mpstoryview

"Christianity has never been about the Bible being the inerrant word of God," Ehrman says. "Christianity is about the belief in Christ."

Apparently Ehrman hasn't met any of the southern Baptists from this area, heh. I also agree with the critic that this guy isn't presenting any "new" information; however, he is being vocal about the information, and perhaps it will get some folks to follow the mantra of "question everything", so I say kudos for making the effort (even though I highly doubt he's the first person to go about doing this).

Edit: Upon reading the article in it's entirety, Ehrman's own family is full of fundies, it appears; his manner (rather avoiding the topic) of discussion religion with them is the same manner that I handle it. I learned the lesson the hard way; there are things that, even as much as you trust and love your family, that you cannot discuss with them. I learned this, oddly enough, not by discussing religion...but by befriending someone they don't like. "rolls eyes"

On a semi-related note, I wonder why the atheist group I tried signing into hasn't responded back with an approval/denial. I tried signing up around a month ago, I think. O_o

Finally remembered to post my workout on the day it was done:

2 x 10

  • Squat: 185

  • SLDL: 205

  • Bench: 175

  • Row: 60

  • Shoulder Press: 40

  • Calf Raise: 250

Goals for Sunday (10 rep max):

  • Squat: 205

  • SLDL: 225

  • Bench: 205

  • Row: 70

  • Shoulder Press: 50

If I can meet these, I'll have increased my body strength overall since I was in high school. This would make me very happy. :-)

http://www.cnn.com/2009/US/05/13/buffalo.crash/index.html

Brandquist wants to know why the pilot -- who failed several flight tests before joining the airline -- never received hands-on training with the emergency equipment that was activated before the crash.

"We put our lives in the hands of people that we assume that the [Federal Aviation Administration] and the airlines are properly training," she told CNN's Randi Kaye.

This further reinforces my answer to the question I often ask people when the subject of government-powered health care comes up: Do you trust the government with your life?

Posting via my work PC because Windstream is the shittiest ISP in existence (more on that in another post, perhaps; the more I think of it, the more my blood boils). Anyway, 3 sets of 10 once again:

  • Squat: 165

  • SLDL: 185

  • Bench: 155

  • Row: 50

  • Shoulder Press: 35

    • I'm starting to see visible differences in the upper half of my upper body (from the pecs up). Still gotta keep working to get rid of this tub of goo (fat) from around my midsection.

My mother reminded me of the "motherism" that my grandmother always said to her, something about braining her if she didn't behave, then reminded me of the one she supposedly always told me: You'll do as I say until you're older than me.

      ...

      Fuck you, woman.

Why is everything pissing me the fuck off today? From Failstream to my mother to dumb shit at work...it isn't stopping.

Forgot to post this last night:

3 sets of 10

  • Squat: 155

  • SLDL: 175

  • Bench: 145

  • Row: 45

  • Shoulder Press: 35

I'm counting the bar on barbell exercises from now on; I think I may have posted numbers previously without factoring bar weight in.

So they just now decided that these ads are "indecent"? I remember seeing Viagra and Enzyte commercials 10 years ago, and I thought it was hilarious. Granted, I was a teenager at that time, so the commercials fell along the lines of "LOL DICK JOKEZ" back then.

  • Bench - 135

...what the fuck?

I have heard this phrase a few times in the past year, and I figured it was some funny way of making fun of someone or alluding to anal sex. Not until this weekend did I know it was a freaking song! O.O

Of course, Trey Parker and Matt Stone aren't two to let something like this go away:

Death penalty for drug trafficking? Apparently that is the case in some parts of the world:

http://www.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/asiapcf/05/04/laos.british.woman.drugs.trial/index.html

Now that this has international coverage, I'm curious as to what the outcome will be. Not trying to sound insensitive about it; I would prefer to not have her die over moving some dope around. There's far worse things she could do that would warrant that penalty.
